My Latest Hobby…

I have fell in love with hand embroidery. I already did cross-stitch and to be honest with you, I can’t see those little squares anymore.

After reading this gal’s blog over at ‘My Country Home’, I had to give it a try. She is wonderful at this craft (and others). You must go check her out! I can’t remember how I got started reading her blog, but I can’t wait to see what she is working on next. She has all sorts of links for free BOM (Block of the Month) patterns. They’re all wonderful. I’ve got most of them downloaded and even finished one set.

My daughter has even tried her hand at it. She spent the greater part of the night sewing up a little stitchery that we designed together. It was her idea and we worked on the drawing together. She stitched it totally alone. She didn’t want to trace the pattern, so we did the print right on the fabric. I might have to start doing that for myself…so much easier! I had to trace…UGH.

Here is her stitchery…. She is giving it to someone special to both of us. (I don’t think she reads my blog, so maybe she won’t see it until I get around to mailing it!)

Here is the picture if anyone else wants to stitch it up…go right ahead and steal the picture. (I’m not sure how to host it otherwise.) ~~I’m not sure if you guys can see it or not, since it’s not showing up on my page…but when I click it it goes to the picture~~

Here is the Autumn hanging I did for my office. I plan on doing one for each of the seasons and just switching them out. I love the stick idea (again this was from Leslie over at  “My Country Home”) This one is from HomeBerries.

Here are a couple of apple hangings that I made for the classroom, but they look so good hanging in my office. I don’t want to move them! LOL I even made the little wire hangers. These are both from HomeBerries.

Here is the BOM that I finished. It is the Christmas Wish-List BOM from Gail Pan Designs.

Crocheting Thru Boredom

I went through a LONG boredom spell before and around Christmas. This year, we decided not to do presents. I did make some fudge and chocolate covered pretzels for three families (they got us some stuff). To fill the void, I crocheted some. Here are the pics…

hot-pad-thread-1 hot-pad-1hot-pad-2 hot-pad-3 hot-pad-4 hot-pad-5 jack-skellington-002 stroller small-crossbones crafty-001 mint-chocolate-002 small-granny mint-chocolate-square-one-small1

The first one is made with crochet thread..same pattern as the next three.

The next five are hotpads. (3 different patterns)

Next, we have a Jack Skellington skull ball. I think he is from Nightmare Before Christmas. (not sure)

Then, we have a new stroller seat for DD’s stroller. I sewed her a replacement seat already..and she lost that one too. Now, I hope she keeps this one.

The two skulls are done in tapestry crochet. Something new I learned.

The little green circle is just a coaster.

The pink granny-square afghan was made for DD. She chose all the colors.

The last one is the first square in the afghan I’m making for my MIL. I currently have two of this color. The squares are 16″.

….and that’s that!

PS…If you haven’t joined ravelry and you crochet or knot…you really need to check it out. I love it there!

One ‘Sweet’ Purse

I made this for a contest….and I fell in love with it, and I don’t even like candy corn. Only problem, DD wants one now and this one took me about four hours to make. Maybe I can skimp and use felt for hers.

—side view—

It feels sooo good to be able to sew something. I’ve been working on a quilt now for about three months (or more). It seems every time I get started on one thing with it, something happens. The top looked perfect when I got it finished. After putting four (yes I said four) layers of batting behind it and a layer of flannel, it looks wonky. I broke countless needles trying to bind the stupid thing. (I only call it stupid because it was such a problem).

—pre-quilted—

This was a project for the kids great-great-grandmother. She did the embroidery years ago. The kids great-great-aunt was going thru her mother’s stuff and happened upon them. This will be a present for her. Shhh…don’t tell her, she doesn’t know yet. The reason for the four layers of batting, she is bedridden and is always complaining of freezing. This heavy thing is definitely going to keep her warm.

I just have to say that I don’t usually quilt. This will be my second completed large quilt that was machine quilted. I did make the boys a quilt each that I tie-quilted. Those were made after the first sewn one. I only have a regular machine and those big rolls just don’t want to go through the middle. ….pause while I dream of a bigger machine…

Well, I’m off to make about six school buses. That’s a fleet!

Book Cover/Carrier

Just wanted to share my latest creation….

It’s a book carrier. It has its own bookmark and 2 pockets plus a zippered pocket.

I’ll show you the pics now…

PacMan Purse, etc….

I have had this purse bouncing around in my head for sometime now. I bought the fabric awhile back and just now am getting to it. I don’t like sewing circles all that well. That must have been the hold up.

Anyways, I put it in my Etsy store with two other purses I just finished. I’m off to make some more. Plus, I need to make some more ear rings.

I crocheted a hat…and she likes it!

crochet-hat.jpg

I got bored the other night and had some pink yarn sitting next to my bed.  So what do I do?  I made a dress for DD’s DD.  Then, I made her a little cap.  When my DD seen what I had done, she wanted a hat for herself.  That’s when all my problems started.

I got a pattern from wal-mart. I had to use a pattern, because I’m not that great at making stuff that you can actually use from my head.  Doll clothes are another story.   I forgot to measure and since I crochet somewhat tight….you see where I’m going with this.  Yep, and I had that thing almost done!  She came and tried it on.  Let me tell  you, she was stretchingggggg it.  She got it to fit, but it had to hurt.  So I had to frog it and start over.  Luckily, I had it done by this morning for her.  She wore it outside in the cold to jump on the trampoline.  Those kids are die hard jumpers.

Now, DS2 want one.  It’ll never end with these two.  When one gets something, the other has to have the same thing…different color of course.

Watch Dog

My DD wanted to be a doggie for halloween this year.  I’m so glad I finished this one in time and she is happy with it.  She is going to wear it for her brother’s halloween birthday party.  Plus, she will wear it to church halloween night.  They have a costume contest every year.  This will be the first time she has entered.  I don’t know why, I love the witch costume I made a couple of years ago.  That one took some time and effort.
